The role of self-presentation on socialmedia significantly impacts how individuals perceive themselves and others, profoundly shaping the dynamics of body image and psychological well-being. Exposure to disasters in particular can trigger post-traumatic stress symptoms, such as loss of sleep, intrusive thoughts about the experience, memory impairments or severe emotional distress. Based on the findings, participants who observed body-positive socialmedia—either with or without captions—experienced improvements in body satisfaction. The UB-led research is among the first to demonstrate a link between socialmedia use and biological markers associated with poor physical health. New research from CBS Professor Dante Donati examines how governments and NGOs can leverage socialmedia engagement to reduce malaria transmission.
